I wonder if it could be possible to realize some basic stats of graphics using build-in fonctions/module in Scratchpad?
For example, from a table of specimens, to produce a pie chart (linked to a specific page or taxa level) or to calculate a % each taxa among the whole database.
If not, I presume that it is always possible to export the specimen database in XLS sheet, make some calculation outside, produce graphic outside and import this graphic as a image file on the desired page. Am I right?
Bug #4376 (Active): Is it possible to show localities on a map filtered on a date / time interval...
I am thinking about one topic.
I would like in a Scratchpad using the Specimens/Observation mode, to have a map showing only the localities where specimens have been found/observed at a moment or during an interval of time (one or several selected months/period for example).
Is it possible to make such filtering on observation data before to use the result for the display on a map?
If so, please could you suggest me how to realize such filtering?
Thank you for your help.
Create a local Catalogue of Life service that returns an Excel file capable of being imported into a Scratchpad taxonomy.
The Mosquito Taxonomic Inventory does not utilize the machine format for taxon pages. In the case of pages for species to be listed in the side bar under Culicidae classification, it is desirable to use the machine format. A trial species page at http://mosquito-taxonomic-inventory.info/simpletaxonomy/term/8546 shows that the genus, subgenus and species names are not italicised, the subgenus name is not enclosed in parentheses and the authorship does not follow the species name. Request that changes be made that will allow the title of the species page to display the taxon names in italics, subgeneric names in parentheses (not italicised), and the author/date to follow the species name in smaller font size (also not italicised).
I have a problem with my forum because the <Add new comment> function doesn't appear. I specify that I tried being logged or not and also I created an other user to test my forum. Do you have a solution??
Thanks a lot
Apologies if you are receiving this issue a second time. Last time when I tried to send it wanted me to log in again but wouldn't accept my details, then vanished.
I am trying to import a biological classification from EOL so I can get something ready for the group. I get the following message:
'The EOL classification service (http://services.eol.org/lifedesk/service.php) does not appear to be running. Please try again later.'
I get the same message if I try the GBIF option and have been trying for a couple of weeks, icluding deleting the page and creating a new one in case I had introduced a bug somehow.
I searched your help pages but found no clue for solving this
I appreciate any help you may offer - or a help link that I have missed.
On the Appearance tab, I get this message:

When I click on "available updates", I get "access denied"
The "Media (URL)" field could create images that reference remote files, rather than downloading them locally. Possibly investigate making this change.
The "Media URL" header (and possibly others) appears in red which suggests it is required, when actually it is not.
Feature #4367 (Active): Display restricted images in the gallery to users that have permission to...
If an image is associated with a private group, and has also been moved to the private folder, it is excluded from the media gallery page. It should instead be included if the user viewing the gallery has permission to view the image.
The Excel file with taxon descriptions includes a Taxonomic name (GUID) field, but no values are included in that field (the field Taxonomic name (Name) does contain information though). Is it possible to fill in the taxonomic name guid field - we would like to use this as a source of information and would like to avoid having to search through all the term names to identify the corresponding term in the taxonomy import file.
We are tunning up a multisite Scratchpads installation (tipos.miza-ucv.org.ve, hemiptera.miza-ucv.org.ve, coleoptera.miza-ucv.org.ve, odonata.miza-ucv.org.ve, lepidoptera,miza-ucv.org.ve) with multilanguage support (English & Spanish).
Each site installation and configuration went as planned and worked smoothly up to the point where Spanish was installed as a second language, from that point onwards Media Gallery items don not call Colorbox.
Functional Colorbox galleries point to: mysite.com/file-colorboxed/1 whereas non functional gallery links to mysite.com/es/file/1 or mysite.com/en/file/1. It seems that the language variable in the URL is messing up the functionality of the Colorbox module.
Any ideas on how to go around this ans still have multilanguage sites?
Thanks in advance
Can a more efficient workflow be devised for uploading and editing a single photo? I often notice that I have media not yet uploaded for a taxon as I'm looking at its taxon page and decide to add a media file. Currently the process takes way too long and involves way too many clicks. Unless I'm mistaken, there is no way to add an image file, for instance, without going about it this way:
- click (1) "Content"
- under Files --> Images click (2) "Add"
- click (3) "Add files"
- click (4) "Start Upload"
- click (5) "Submit"
[Here is where I wish the image edit screen would pop up so I could enter info. Instead, the window closes and I'm back to the Content screen where I have to once again scroll down to Files-->Images to find the file I just uploaded.]
- click (6) View and find just-uploaded file
- click (7) "Edit"
- add data
- click (8) "Save"
This involves many more steps than adding images on my previous LifeDesk, where, when logged in as admin, an "Add Image" button appeared on my species page (click 1) which took me to a "Create Image" page where I could specify the file to be uploaded from my computer via a "Choose File" button (click 2)and fill out the data and licensing information, then click "Save" (click 3). A total of 3 clicks and done. I count 8 clicks for Scratchpads (and there is significant wait time for several of these), plus time-consuming scrolling on the Content page (2x).
Is there any way a shortcut "Add Media for this taxon" button could be added for logged in admins the media tab of a species page? i.e. this page:
Could not such a button not be added to the Species Media window edit menu (that contains "Edit View" and "Configure Block") that would take you to a page to select the file (click 2), fill in the data and then click "Save" (click 3)?
I had created some interface string in Chinese, and want to share the translated file for other sites,
Can you enable Import/Export function?
We are unable to complete SC2 recent updates to our locally hosted scratchpads.
It gives following error

It would be great if this issue can be sorted out earliest possible.
I don't feel comfortable about raising these as issues, but Vince said it was the best route - please tell me if there is a better way.
I understand the use of the [bib][/bib] tag in descriptions. Is there a larger family of such tags that should be used within content in a Scratchpa? I am thinking particularly of these cases:
1. Linking to a taxon - I can just create regular links to the taxonomy/term/xx pages. Is there a better way (something like [tax]xx[/tax])? In a perfect world, hovering over such a link might show the ">>"-separated classification that you see when typing a taxon name in the search box, with or without individual links to the separate taxa.
2. Linking to a media object - I'd like to be able to reference images within description text and link to them easily - better still, I'd like clicking on such a link to open the popup file-colorboxed view you get from the gallery - best of all, I'd like the image to appear as a thumbnail if I hover over the link. Is there anything for any of this?
I hope it's appropriate to raise help issues like this here. I can't find the answers elsewhere. I am working on a Scratchpad for Pterophoroidea and would like (for my convenience and that of any collaborators) to hold copies of some reference materials within the scratchpad (images and PDFs) but not to publish these through the site (at least until I secure permissions to do so).
I have tried to achieve this by creating a group with group visibility set to private.
I have then associated some images with the group via the Groups Audience field and with Group Content Visibility set to "Use group defaults".
The images remain visible to users even when not logged in to the site - they all appear clearly in the Media Gallery. I have therefore moved them all to a Private Folder to give them some protection. However then users just see broken image links in the gallery:
I was expecting that these images would be visible in the gallery and elsewhere only to users who were part of the group. Is this in fact possible and, if so, how should I achieve this?
I also find that unauthenticated users unexpectedly get redirected to pages that represent the images associated with the group. This seems to happen even when they are trying to view something else. E.g., I click on a link for a facet in the gallery:
This should limit the gallery display to one - fully public - image. In fact it redirects to an unavailable image with this link:
It seems that the processing ends up storing the failing image thumbnail URL and then redirecting to it.
I assume this is related.
Thanks for any help
Copies of images from EOL are imported into my scratchpad. This makes it really difficult to edit images on the grid...
The main block of the frontpage looks much cleaner now in its display of images and thumbnails. One issue I am having though is that in the older version I was able to custom modify the view of that block to filter for images that belong to only certain media galleries. I can't find a way to modify the view anymore, though. Is this still possible? Thanks.
